The Israeli military said Palestinians in Tuvas threw Molotov cocktails and opened fire on Israeli forces.

In a statement, the military said overnight it had arrested five suspects in Tubas and the nearby town of Tammun, who were allegedly involved in plotting a “terrorist attack”.

The extremist Islamic Jihad Group said one of its senior members, 32-year-old editor Ma’moun Na’eem Bani Odeh, was arrested during the Tammun raid.

“It is clear that the occupation forces are conducting a raid and arrest campaign targeting resistance cadres and the Islamic Jihad movement in the occupied West Bank,” Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Israeli jets shelled the blockaded Gaza Strip in what the military said was a preemptive strike to prevent an imminent threat to Israel from Islamic Jihad.

In Gaza, at least 49 people, including civilians and children, have been killed and hundreds more injured in 56 hours of fighting. In this battle, more than 1,000 of his rockets were fired towards Israel by Islamic Jihad.

Israeli forces have carried out near-daily raids in the West Bank in recent months after Palestinians in the region carried out deadly street attacks in Israel.
