history and social science
Teaching social studies with strength and confidence begins with a deep knowledge and understanding of the subject and its unique goals. The social studies program prepares students to work to identify, understand, and solve the challenges facing diverse nations in an increasingly interdependent world. Education for citizenship should help students acquire and learn to use the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will prepare them to become competent and responsible citizens throughout their lives. Hmm. Competent and responsible citizens are informed, thoughtful, community involved, politically involved, and exhibit moral and civic virtues.
