Kilgore SAFFE Day provides food, fun and education
Kilgore, TX (KLTV) – This annual event in the eastern Texas town is a day of fun games and family time.
The Covid-era caused a two-year hiatus, but ‘Safety Day’ is back in Kilgore today.
“Children and adults with special abilities who can go out and have fun. Get involved in activities that everyone can do. Unfortunately, there are some things that children with special abilities cannot touch. But here at Saffe Days, it’s for everyone,” said Joe Stephens, co-organizer of the event.
“Safe Day, the ‘Special Ability Family Fun Event’ that started in 2012, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. There are usually 2-5,000 people throughout the day. It’s a five-hour event,” said her event director, Josie Ashley.
For event ambassador 17-year-old special needs teen Calaves Chanler, this is an event she’s ecstatic about.
“It’s fun and exciting,” she says.
Tailored for children and adults with special needs or restrictions to get out and have food, music, meet firefighters, and generally have a good time.
“Everyone is special,” says Ashley.
For parents, it is irreplaceable.
“My son likes to socialize, he likes to meet people, he likes to meet people, he likes music, so that’s great. says Robin Roberson, who brought his son to the event.
All events and attractions were barrier-free and everything down to food and drinks was free.
