Governor Abbott Celebrates Dedication of DHR Health Level 1 Trauma Center | Texas Governor’s Office

Governor Greg Abbott today celebrated the one-year anniversary of the designation of DHR Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center in Edinburgh and the dedication of the Dr. Kenneth Mattox Trauma Unit. Before DHR Health was designated, the closest Level 1 trauma facility he had was in San Antonio, 240 miles away.
“Thanks to local leaders and medical professionals from DHR Health who have earned Level 1 Trauma Center designation, Texans now have access to world-class, comprehensive trauma care in the Rio Grande Valley,” Abbott said. “The new trauma facility is an important step in building a safer, healthier future in the Rio Grande Valley. I am proud to be in.”
Addressing an audience of nearly 200 people, Governor Abbott thanked doctors, nurses and hospital staff for their life-saving work, and Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa and the entire Rio Grande Valley legislative delegation thanked the new facility.
