The Hartford Group Offers Garden-Based Education

Hartford, Connecticut (WTNH) — Hartford-based community organizations have been working to support Hartford’s urban farmers for over 50 years.
Patrick Doyle, Executive Director of Knox Inc. said:
Knox is a horticultural-based educational program that works with schools and community organizations.
This includes the Aasaaka Foundation, a group of urban farmers and beekeepers in Hartford. The group is working to set up beehives near urban farmers to help with pollination.
“I started out like one little plant at home, but it added,” said Aarva Quinonez, creator of the Aasaaka Foundation. “But this is a city and we have no land.”
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture awarded the group a farm transition grant earlier this year to support Hartford’s pollination pathways.
For Asaska Foundation volunteers, this group is more than just bees and vegetables.
“The biggest takeaway from that is relationships, the ability to connect with interesting and wonderful people in Hartford,” said Aamari Quinonez.
