FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Ground Beef Products Positive for E. coli O157:H7

Washington, December 5, 2022 – The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health warning for ground beef sold at the La Michoacana Meat Market in Greenville, Texas. Escherichia coli (Escherichia coli) O157:H7. No recall requested as there are currently no products available for sale to consumers. However, ground beef products can remain in consumers’ homes and can cause illness if eaten.

- VARIOUS WEIGHTS, INCLUDING “CARNE MOLIDA REGULAR/GROUND BEEF” WITH “PACK DATE” NOVEMBER 28 TO DECEMBER 1, 2022 AND “SALE BY DECEMBER 1, 2022” ON LABEL ground beef stuffed in butcher paper.
These products were sold exclusively at the La Michoacana Meat Market retailer located at 5106 Wesley St., Greenville, Texas, 75402. The last day this item was sold was December 1, 2022.
This issue was discovered during routine FSIS product testing when a sample was found to be positively present. Escherichia coli O157:H7. Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a potentially lethal bacterium that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps 2-8 days after infection (3-4 days on average). FSIS is concerned that some products may be in a consumer’s refrigerator or freezer. Consumers who purchase these products are urged not to consume them.These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
