The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has awarded 22 grants to address the national teacher shortage and support teacher pipelines and development programs.Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona

Three years of grants totaling more than $60 million are available through the Effective Educator Development Support (SEED) program.

Dr. Miguel A. Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education, said: “More than ever, we are supporting teacher preparation and development programs that provide educators with meaningful, relevant, and evidence-based strategies to promote student success and social and emotional well-being. Today’s $60 million+ investment truly raises the bar in professional development, incorporating evidence-based, innovative and promising approaches such as the Grow-Your-Own program to power today’s teacher pipeline. We will support quality programs across the country that will intensify, and in the years to come.”

In this year’s SEED competition, ED prioritized projects involving comprehensive teacher preparation and projects for comprehensive and equitable learning that meet student needs.

Recipients include WestEd. Civic Education Center; Georgia State University Research Foundation; University of Kansas; University of Maryland, College Park. East Tennessee State University, etc.

ED Awarded Augustus F. Hawkins Grants for Teacher Preparation Programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and Minority Service Institutes (MSIs) through October 7 We are also accepting applications for the gold program.
