JERUSALEM – The United Nations World Food Program (WFP), in collaboration with the Palestinian Ministry of Education (MoE) and implementing partner Juzoor, is targeting nearly 80 schoolgirls in two West Bank and West Bank schools with a focus on nutritional health. The Nutrition Ambassador pilot is part of WFP’s Social Behavior Communications Change (SBCC) initiative. The initiative aims to prevent high rates of anemia and support healthy diets in the West Bank and Gaza through awareness-raising, advocacy and community engagement.
WFP and the Ministry of Education are implementing the school program to address high rates of anemia, exacerbated by poor diets, that currently affect 20% of Palestinian school-age children. Summer camps include nutrition education activities, including school gardens in climate-friendly agriculture aimed at encouraging healthy eating habits among younger generations and educating them on environmentally friendly practices. Bringing together teams of experts to support and implement activities using ‘edutainment strategies’ to help young people apply nutrition, health, mental health and climate-friendly practices in their homes, schools and communities, encouraged to advocate.
Participating female students will participate in nutrition-focused group discussions, cooking sessions, hands-on gardening sessions, arts and crafts lessons, sports and exercise classes, and personal hygiene sessions.

WFP is providing food aid to 371,293 people in the West Bank and Gaza through direct food distribution and cash transfers. In addition, WFP will work to improve the food security and nutritional needs of the most vulnerable and affected Palestinian households through vocational training, skills-focused employment opportunities, and home farming assets to support the long-term recovery. supporting power.
