This Sunday afternoon, in the middle of downtown Youngstown, a watermelon will explode, dropping eggs from 50 feet into the air.

These are just two of the many experiments that will be demonstrated as part of OHWOW!’s Silly Science Sunday.

Part of Central Square will be closed for the event, and W. Federal Street will be closed between Wick Avenue and Phelps Street. Due to construction, all of W. Commerce Street and the intersection of Phelps Street and his W. Boardman Street will be closed to traffic.

The event will include a variety of hands-on activities, exhibitors and stage shows related to science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics.

“Silly Science Sunday is a day for all ages to come to OH WOW! and get excited about STEAM education at Mahoning Valley,” said Colleen Ruby, Director of Visitor Services. “We encourage exploration and experimentation in our museums every day, and Silly Science is an extension of our mission.”

Exhibitors such as Youngstown State University College of STEM, NASA Glenn Research Center, Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and many others will attend.

The event takes place in downtown Youngstown on Sunday, September 18th from 11am to 4pm.
