New York State Senator Sherry Mayer ran for New York politics as a woman in Congress and chaired the Congressional Education Subcommittee on Students with Special Needs. Today, Senator Mayer, who represents New York’s 37th District, is chairman of the state Senate Board of Education and remains an advocate for children and public schools. In this interview, Sen. Mayer breaks down the foundation grant formula and explains how the New York Senate has worked to ensure adequate public school funding across New York. Just as Sen. Mayer worked with the New York Senate to secure funding for public schools, she is also advocating for a pre-kindergarten that would provide enough funding for all of her four-year-olds within New York. Senator Mayer will discuss progress in expanding free preschool and the importance of accessible preschool for all children. As her interview draws to a close, Sen. Mayer talks about her recent accomplishments and what she’s most proud of.
