Selected Education Champion: Amy Stewart
Across California, educators are rising to meet another call for public service by running for school board elections this November.
Seeking to contribute their school and education knowledge and experience to local school boards, these educators are committed to building schools where every student deserves to be an elected policy maker. As the November election approaches, we spotlight the many educators running for school board here at the Digital Home of California Educators.
Meet one of these education champions. I’m Amy Stewart, a middle school physical education teacher and member of the Paramount Teachers Association, running for the Bellflower Unified School Board.
Why are you running for election?
I felt the need to be more involved in my community. I wanted to serve the community that raised me and prepare me for my future education.
What are the district’s top priorities?
Build trust with communities, improve communication, restore pride and confidence in school districts, recruit strong leaders, prepare students for careers in the global economy, and help students succeed in college and careers. provide support to
Why did you decide it was time to serve your community as an elected official?
I think my community needed it and didn’t get the support they deserved. I want to help make a difference. We need to work with unions and educational partners and I believe we can improve in those areas.
What would you like to tell your fellow CTA members about running for elected office?
It’s a lot of work, long hours, phone calls, research, and it’s all worth it. I am so happy to meet so many people in my community that I never knew before. It’s nice to be more involved and give back to serve others. I love the people I work with and I believe I have made lifelong friends along the way.
