The universe of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo comes to life in a new exhibition at the Palais Galliera Fashion Museum in Paris.

From her famous painted plaster corset, to her traditional Tehuana skirt, to her bright pink Revlon lipstick, the exhibition entitled Frida Kahlo: Beyond Appearance showcases over 200 pieces owned by the beloved artist. I collect personal items.

The story of Frida Kahlo

Born in Coyoacan, Mexico, Frida was disabled by polio as a child and was seriously injured in a bus crash when she was 18.

She had to wear a corset for the rest of her life and later had one leg amputated.

But Kahlo dared to defy her unfortunate life circumstances to become one of the most widely recognized and influential artists of the 20th century.

What is on display at the Frida Kahlo: Beyond Appearances exhibition?

More than 200 works from Casa Azul, where Frida was born and raised, will be exhibited for the first time in France in collaboration with the Frida Kahlo Museum.

The collection includes letters, cosmetics, medicines, orthopedic instruments, as well as clothes and accessories Kahlo owned, including the red scarf she began wearing after her right leg was amputated a year before her death. A prosthetic leg with leather boots is also included.

On the ground floor of the museum, temporary exhibitions running from September 15th to December 31st will feature works by Rei Kawakubo at Comme des Garçons, Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy, Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel and more.
