Nothing Bundt Cakes, a new Okemos bakery, held a fundraiser at Friday’s ribbon cutting, donating 20% ​​of its sales to the Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Foundation for Ultimate Growth.

The foundation was started after former Michigan State University NFL punter Greg Montgomery lost his battle with mental illness in 2020. They strive to provide mental health his resources to all student-athletes at MSU.

“Greg was a friend of mine at school…he was someone I really appreciated,” said Wendy Kinney, owner of Okemos Nothing Bundt Cakes. Because it is close and dear to my heart.”

The foundation also developed a curriculum for coaches to discuss mental health with athletes, called SCORE

Margot Montgomery Moran, president of the Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Foundation for Ultimate Growth and Montgomery’s sister, said:

Moran’s family also has close ties to MSU.

“Both my brother and my father played Spartans football in Michigan,” Moran said.

Montgomery has been a mental health advocate since she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“He really wanted to spread (awareness) … his mission was interrupted,” Moran said. “It is our duty as a family to continue, and his foundation’s motto is ‘He Lives Through the Lives Saved.'”

Michigan State University’s Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapter also supported Ultimate Growth as part of their philanthropic efforts and attended the event. One of their national philanthropic efforts is based on mental health awareness.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Philanthropy Chair Bryce Gordon said, “This is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness…not only the girls within our sorority, but others as well.” “You are listening, you are not alone.”
