America Series
Florence Montmare, a Swedish/Greek/American artist, will be signing her first monograph, Florence Montmare: America Series, in the museum lobby. The book showcases images she took during her 7000-mile journey across the United States in 2021-22, using an electric vehicle as a mobile studio. Montmare encountered people from various backgrounds and explored their relationship with nature and future aspirations. As a woman and immigrant, she focused on female, minority, Native American, and LGBTQ perspectives. The book is an unflinching, deeply personal yet universal portrayal of a transforming nation as the climate crisis alters the landscape. The event is presented with support from the Consulate General of Sweden in New York.

Midweek Mindfulness
ABOUT THE EVENT
Shifting the community’s energy level, one breath at a time. Attention to individual needs and encouragement of community support are both emphasised in Midweek Mindfulness with Urban Yoga. Traditional practises use movement, sound, and breathing to calm the mind and release tension in the muscles. As we tune in to their indigenous selves, we may let their selves go and flow with the beat of this practise.
This version of Midweek Mindfulness takes a more grounded approach in celebration of their show, Best in Show: Pets in Contemporary Photography. It celebrates the wonder of their bond with feathered friends and features a soundscape composed in partnership with New York and Urban Yoga Founder Ghylian Bell.
As you enter a meditative state, let the peaceful sound of birdsong bring you into harmony with nature. Because meditation has a cooling effect, please wear an extra layer. Museum entrance is included in all event tickets.
