India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day this year. To encourage the people, the Indian government launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, inviting people to bring home and hoist the Indian flag. As directed by the government, people enthusiastically support the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and bring the flag into their homes.

The whole country is ready to flaunt its shades of pride. Some are unfurling tricolor flags and few offer or eat tricolor food to celebrate. At Bhartiya Tiranga Some people dress up.

When it comes to fashion trends in India, fashion has changed a lot since the 50’s and these decades had distinct aesthetics and trends. As India celebrates her 75th Independence Day, here’s an overview of the history and evolution of India’s burgeoning fashion industry. Take a look at how the fashion tastes of Free Indians have changed over the past 75 years.

1950’s

After liberty, people had a strong patriotic flavor. They wore kadis to support the Swadeshi movement. You can also see that the influence of European culture and Hindi cinema was strong. Actresses like Nargis, Nutan, Surayya and Meena Kumari were fashion her icons during this era.

1960s

In the 1960s, people looked to actors such as Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand and actresses such as Madhubala, Mumtaz and Nargis Dutt for inspiration in their fashion choices. During this era, women’s clothing became more fashionable, and everyone embraced bright colors and prints.

Anarkali suits, tiered orange sarees, form-fitting churidar suits, short blouses, hints of exposed skin, bouffant hairstyles, winged eyeliners and the all-time favorite sadhna cut were the decade’s favorites. .

1970s

The 1970s gave us Dimple Kapadia’s iconic polka dot blouse with a bobby, Hare Rama Hare Krishna’s Zeenat Aman’s hippie look, Parveen Babi’s scanty bikini and Helen’s iconic cabaret feathers. So the 1970s were huge for fashion. Bell-bottoms, cropped shirts, oversized glasses, platform heels, and polka his dots are among his most striking trends of the era.

1980s

The 80’s brought great changes to the fashion industry. The era introduced flashy embellishments, large shoulder pads, flashy colors, metallics, wild hair and leg warmers, and spawned the first generation of Indian fashion designers such as Rohit Khosla and Satya Paul.

In 1983 Bhanu Athaiya won India’s first and only Oscar for costume design and in 1986 the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established. In Bollywood, Sri Devi and Rekha were fashion icons.

1990s

This era began with the economic liberalization of India. From denim shirts, crop tops, chokers, coords and overalls to chiffon sarees and oversized shirts, these are all his gifts for this decade. A trend born in the 1990s that continues today. Actresses such as Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya, Sushmita Khan and Kajol were her style icons of this era.

2000s

In this era, access to the internet was very easy, opening the door to the latest styles and trends. This era saw the birth of super-fitting items such as tube tops and micro-minis, as well as Digifusion costumes.

2010s to 2020s

Moving on to the most recent period, the 2010s brought digitalisation, including social media and influencers. The focus has shifted to street style. The digital age has made all fashion available in one click.

As the last decade in the midst of a full-blown pandemic draws to a close, the focus shifts to comfort and clothing that looks great on social media. His next decade of fashion focuses on technological advancements such as his smart fabrics and digital-only clothing.
