Dayton Schools Bridge Education Gap
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton students are restoring their education as schools reach pre-pandemic gap closure levels.
According to a Dayton Public Schools release, the Gap Close level shows how well a school is helping to meet student expectations in English, language, math and graduation.
Levels have declined during the pandemic, but reduced class sizes and increased one-on-one support have helped students reach their full potential.
Dr. Elizabeth Lori, Superintendent of Dayton Public Schools said: “While much work remains to be done, effective strategies are already in place to sustain this upward momentum. Our grades will continue to improve.”
Four of Dayton’s schools earned four out of five stars for closing the gap, according to the DPS. Charity Adams, Horace Mann, Roosevelt, Mound Street Academy. Elsewhere he has nine schools awarded three of his five stars: Belle Haven, Pontiz, Eastmont, Edison, Fairview, Kemp, Kiser, River’s Edge, and Stivers.
Several Dayton Public Schools also scored highly in a variety of other areas, including the Gifted Performance Index, Gifted Progress, Gifted Services and Identification, English Learner Progress, Math Progress, ELA Progress and ELA Achievement.
“The district expects students to continue to make progress with these recovery efforts, and we are confident they will continue on this upward trajectory,” DPS said.
