Accountability Issues for Borland, School Board and Town of Greenwich
As a former Greenwich resident and town employee (not a school board employee), I have my own feelings about Jeremy Boland’s tapes produced by Project Veritas. Like you, I think the suspicion that the tape was edited is secondary.
I don’t know Mr. Borland, nor do I have any children who attend Cos Cobb School or the Greenwich Public School System. In fact, I don’t live in Greenwich, let alone Connecticut, but I like to keep an eye on where I’ve lived, worked, and raised my children.
Borland’s comments appear to be his own and were delivered during a relaxed conversation on another day in what appears to be at least one public place. As might be expected if he felt ‘prepared’, he never hesitated to provide an answer. It was like being
The officially released tapes appear to be recordings of at least two meetings. This suggests that Mr. Borland felt he could speak openly to anyone. She was apparently able to convince Mr. Borland to relax and speak her mind, so it’s a tribute to that individual. It is to ignore the elephant in the
To make matters worse, Mr. Borland is an assistant principal and is expected to hold leadership positions and provide guidance to those under his supervision. Given his own comments, his questions about impartiality and objectivity should be addressed. Clearly, this incident has the potential to expose the City of Greenwich and/or the Board of Education to legal action.
Equally evident, and perhaps more importantly, this is a flaw in an otherwise highly respected school system. People are well advised to avoid knee-jerk reactions.
Yes, it may be true that there may be people in the school system who share Mr. Borland’s beliefs, but it is quite possible that they are in the minority. Like those of us who have expressed, it is possible that they are disgusted by the mainstream of educators.
We would like to await the outcome of an official investigation, but along such lines, we should be prepared to consider this to be a personal matter and therefore confidential. result of the situation.
The question as to whether Project Veritas secretly recorded Mr. Borland’s comments is irrelevant – he said what he said.
