LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WDRB) — Kentucky Science Center’s newest dinosaur has finally been named.

On Saturday’s “Dinosaur Day,” the museum announced that the renovated World’s Fair Triceratops recently installed on top of the building will be named “Lottie.”

The name comes from the giant dinosaur model overlooking the museum’s parking lot.

It was one of nine fiberglass dinosaurs created as part of an exhibit hosted by the Sinclair Oil Company at the 1964 World’s Fair. Triceratops was later donated to the City of Louisville, and from 1970 he was kept at the Louisville Zoo until 1979, then Kentucky until 2007. He moved to the Science Center parking lot.

After being moved to a storage unit for several years, the 10-foot-tall, 25-foot-long, nearly 5,000-pound dinosaur was brought back downtown on top of an elevator in the Kentucky Science Center parking lot to keep it safe from motorists. rice field. and the Ohio River.

Visitors to Saturday’s special “Dino Day” event got the chance to get up close and personal with costumed dinosaur characters and meet modern-day reptiles at the Dino Dance Party. They also had the opportunity to try out paleontology-themed activities. There was also a screening of “Dinosaurs of the Antarctic” in his four-story digital theater at the Center.

“Rex” — the Kentucky Science Center resident T-Rex hand puppet — told WDRB he had a great time at ROAR.

“We’re having a dinosaur dance party right now. We’re making dinosaur masks, we’re making fossils, and we might explode in a minute!” he teased.
