Lynchburg, Virginia – After the New York City Attorney General filed a civil lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, questions were raised, including what political implications the lawsuit might have.
10 News reached out to Dr. David Richards, dean of political science at Lynchburg University, to ask what impact the lawsuit might have on politics.
“I think his supporters will dismiss this as a political move. For those who didn’t like him in the first place, this is further proof that they were right,” Richards said.
The lawsuit will be announced Wednesday, but Richards said it’s still very early to determine what the political implications will be.
“I don’t know how dramatically this will change the game, and I doubt we’ll see much movement on this in the midterm elections until November,” Richards said. “A year from now, when the presidential election starts to get underway … perhaps this investigation or prosecution process will go further and start to have ramifications.”
The lawsuit is the latest to add to a list of multiple allegations against the former president.
In the over 200-page lawsuit, James’ office details what the former president says he’s trying to inflate his net worth in order to win lucrative loan deals.
Donald Trump has yet to officially announce his campaign to run for president in 2024.
