This donation will cover the salaries of one full-time nursing teacher and two part-time nursing teachers for five years. This supports the creation of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Howard and provides up to five scholarships to her DNP students who commit to teaching nursing after graduation.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Joan and William Conway for their tremendous contributions to supporting and expanding the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. It will provide more opportunities for a diverse student population across disciplines.” Wayne AI Frederick.
“The College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences is thrilled and thrilled to receive this $2 million gift from Joanne and William Conway. Dr. Gina S. Brown, MSA, RN, Dean of nursing and health related college. “This is the largest donation to the university and the only HBCU funded by the Bedford Falls Foundation initiative. We are humbled that they consider Howard and appreciate their partnership. This will expand Howard’s ability to educate nurses to improve health outcomes around the world.”
Mr and Mrs Conway Bedford Falls Foundation Charitable TrustWilliam Conway is the co-founder, interim CEO and non-executive co-chair of the board of directors of private equity firm The Carlyle Group. He and his wife Joanne are passionate advocates of nursing education. Howard’s scholarship program is named the “Joanne and William Conway Nursing Scholarship” in their honor, and scholarship recipients are called “Conway Scholars.”
Joanne and William Conway said: Like many of her HBCUs, Howard University’s nursing program serves many first-generation college students. ”
“The nursing program at Howard University has the leadership and vision needed to expand. Howard wanted more qualified students to declare a nursing major than its program slots. Given the acute nurse shortage, we saw an opportunity to partner with Howard to provide the necessary funding to expand our programs to accommodate these qualified students.”
This donation will support CNAHS’ goal of increasing enrollment in undergraduate nursing programs and adding a DNP PhD to the curriculum. The DNP is one of the highest levels of nursing she can obtain, providing nurses with the ability to influence and implement policy while applying practical healthcare knowledge. These are options for nurses who want to pursue a higher level degree without abandoning patient care for research.
Mr. Brown continues. Graduates will be able to tackle health inequalities globally. So being able to have nurses on site is a very circular effect. Without nurse educators, we cannot teach nursing students. Without the DNP program, it would be impossible to find the right nurse educators. ”
Since its inception as a nursing division in 1969, CNAHS has trained African Americans and other professionals in the fields of clinical laboratory sciences, health sciences and administration, nursing, nutritional sciences, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistants, and radiology. It has grown into a major pipeline. treatment. CNAHS also offers graduate programs in Nutritional Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and a postgraduate family nurse certification program.
