Lawrence, Kang.- Kansas women’s basketball improved to 9-0 on Sunday afternoon, defeating Wichita State University 72-52 at Allen Fieldhouse. It’s the fourth time in program history that the Jayhawks have gone 9-0, and the first since the 2019-20 season opened with him 11-0.

A 20-point loss to Wichita State is good for Kansas to go on a seven-game winning streak by more than 20 points over their opponents. It was in 1980 that the Jayhawks won his seventh straight game by more than 20 points.

Kansas scored 16 points against the Shockers on Sunday, led by the senior duo of Zakia Franklin and Holly Carzgeeter. He scored 10 points and 4 rebounds for Chandler Prater as well as Tyanna Jackson for his 7 points and 13 rebounds.

Kansas were very efficient on the defensive side of the court, scoring 15 steals and 7 blocks as a team. His 15 steals for the Jayhawks are a season-high and the most since Dec. 5, 2018, against Nebraska. Prater and Kersgieter each recorded four steals, Franklin his three and Sanna Strom his two. Jackson also tied his season-high on the block at five.

Both teams started late, but Kansas took a 13-7 lead late in the first quarter. Franklin’s 3-point shot ignited the Jayhawks’ offense, and Karsgeeta blew the buzzer for a layup to end the first game.

The Jayhawks held the Shockers to just 7 points. It’s his second time this season that Kansas has held a team below his 10 points in the first quarter (December 4, 2022 against Southeast Missouri).

Kansas led 8, 31-23 at the half after an aggressive second quarter. The Jayhawks were busy on defense, forcing 10 turnovers. Prater scored his 3 steals and Franklin his 2. Jackson scored his 7 points and 7 boards to lead both teams at halftime.

Kasgeeta caught fire just after halftime, giving the Jayhawks eight points. Franklin scored his 11th in the 3rd round and made his 3-pointer corner shot in the 2nd quarter. The game switched gears in the second half, with both Franklin and Carthgeiter reaching double-digit scoring in the third quarter to give Kansas a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Nadira Eltayeb scored the first point in the fourth, putting Kansas up 63–43 with a left hook in the paint for 1. The Jayhawks beat the Shockers 41-29 in the second half, closing out the game 72-52.

Mayberry scored seven points and had a season-high three assists. This is her third time she has recorded her 3 assists this season (St. Mary’s (Nov. 26) & vs. Maine (Nov. 25)).
Kelsgeiter scored 16 points (6-of-12) and had two assists. He has scored in double figures in eight of nine games this season.
The Jayhawks have not lost in nine games since the first quarter of this season.
Jackson finished the game with a game high in both rebounds (13) and blocks (5). It was the sixth time Jackson has finished with double-digit rebounds this season, and the second time with five blocks.
