The United Nations Transformation Education Summit concludes today.

The summit aims to restore the groundwork for achieving global education goals that have been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Another key concern was the negative impact on student health and safety from increased domestic violence and child labor associated with widespread school closures. Key outcomes of today’s summit include increasing funding for education and ensuring digital learning for the public.

On Friday, youth activists, in collaboration with the secretary-general’s special youth envoy, Youth Declaration of students disproportionately affected by the global education crisis low- and middle-income countriesSpain and Switzerland were enthusiastic supporters of the Giga initiative to support increased access to the internet for education.

Following today’s summit, the Global Finance Facility for Education will be launched to increase funding for education in low- and middle-income countries through regional and multilateral development banks.existing initiatives such as Giga Mobilized to address digital access, capacity, and security gaps to support digital transformation in education. Some obstacles include lack of infrastructure and gender inequalities that limit access to the internet.
