More than 500 people have attended community baby showers in the past.

Marnie Jackson of the Department of Health says the event was created to educate families about staying safe while babies sleep.

Families also learn about the resources available from conception through the child’s first birthday.

Families will not only enjoy free meals and prizes, but will also have access to valuable information and resources, she said.

“If we can’t answer your questions on the day of the event, there are many programs out there that will give you love and resources and follow up over time,” Jackson said. .

Kiarra Brooks said it was her first time attending an event like this and she learned new tips for keeping her baby healthy.

“I think it’s really good to be a first-time mother. Knowing that other people can help you is really good for them and for yourself.

Edeli Penaloza is a first-time mom and says she is excited to meet new moms and look forward to attending classes that will help her and her baby.

“I think this is great because I know that sometimes having a new baby can be difficult. It’s life-changing,” said Penalosa.

Families could spin to win prizes such as car seats, diaper genies, and playing with pins, along with the opportunity to take home diapers, clothes, and wipes.

“People who help with diapers and don’t want free diapers. It’s great that they’re doing this for the community,” Peñalosa said.

This is the first time the event has been held since the pandemic.
