The Browns’ stunning loss to the Jets felt incredibly unlikely, but it was actually history repeating itself in the worst possible way for Cleveland.
The Cleveland Browns lead the New York Jets by 13 points with 1:23 remaining.
they lost one.
That is correct. It’s not a typo or fancy. That’s what actually happened. The Browns took a 13-point lead within 90 seconds of him. to the Jets.
It was incredible, but oddly enough, it literally fit perfectly with the Browns franchise that had existed before.
The last team to lose a game after leading by 13 points in the final two minutes was the Cleveland Browns.
Browns’ collapse against Jets was worst since last Cleveland collapse
That collapse was against the Bears in 2001. another head coach. another quarterback. A different roster from top to bottom. Same old Browns.
Let’s put this collapse in an even more painful context. Cleveland had a 99.9% chance of winning that game after Nick Chubb scored to put the team up to his 30-17.
How exactly did that happen? The Jets got the ball back after Chubb’s touchdown and took little time to score on a 66-yard pass from Joe Flacco to Corey Davis.
All Cleveland needed was to recover an onside kick…they didn’t. New York hit a perfect onside kick to recover and breathe new life.
All Cleveland had to do was stop Flacco and company from finding the end zone with 1:18 left in the game. They couldn’t do it either. Flacco led a 9-play, 53-yard drive with a 15-yard pass to Garrett Wilson.
Jacoby Brissett responded with 22 seconds to go, but he threw an interception and the game ended in pure and utter Cleveland misery.
Cleveland fell to 1-1 and the Jets improved to 1-1.
