A Cream Sherry by Way of Whisky – A Luxurious Sherry-Infused Experience
This eleven-year-old single malt whisky called A Cream Sherry by Way of whiskey is made with Scotch whiskey and cream sherry which balance each other perfectly. This series, called “Two to One,” is focused on mixing the tastes from two different barrels to create a fresh and exciting result. After spending time in two bourbon barrels, the whisky was moved at nine years old to a first-fill American oak Pedro Ximénez (PX) hogshead and a first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso hogshead. The result is a cask-strength whisky that is refined and flavorful, with dried fruit being its main note, bottled at 59.7 percent alcohol by volume.
The nose of the whisky is very rich and filled with different aromas, including rye spice, fresh dill, polished mahogany, rapeseed oil, manilla envelopes and hazelnut skins. When water is added, rosewater, strawberry jam sponge and toasted coconut come out, adding more interest to the drink. There are sugary puffs, honey, maple syrup, rum and raisins fudge and a hint of dried marjoram with an earthy bodega smell on my tongue. The flavor of fruit liqueurs, melons, strawberry wine, caffè latte, a hint of red chile and a mountain of spicy vanilla custard become more noticeable as the sauce thickens and gets richer with reduction. The whisky has been beautifully aged in sherry barrels and it tastes great too.
