RIVER FOREST, IL — Empowering girls with STEM education is the focus of Dr. Roz Iasillo, WGN’s First Teacher of the Month for the 2022-2023 school year.

“Dr. Roz” teaches at Trinity High School in River Forest, sharing his love of science with young women and nurturing their limitless potential.

“I expect the best from them, so they deserve the best of me.

Iasillo guides students through hands-on experiments with enthusiasm and encouragement.

“I’m in my fifth year of Trinity High School. That’s my 38.^th Year of Catholic All-Women Education,” she said.

Growing up, “Dr. Roz said she had a lot of support from her family, but she felt firsthand that girls didn’t have many opportunities to get involved in science.

“I’ve come to believe that this is how I’m going to spend my life. Spending my life with young women in a meaningful way, giving them the opportunity to grow as a young woman and of course give them more opportunities than I’ve had in my professional life.” I would like to,” she said.

She teaches International Baccalaureate biology and forensics, develops engineering options for students, and has a long-standing focus on environmental sciences.

“My approach is to teach dignity to everyone sitting in that room because they deserve it.

Ankin Law, the award sponsor, gave her a $1,000 check for the school.

Proceeds will be used to create a place for students to relax.

She comes to work every day and is honored to lead the school’s mission of pursuing faith, knowledge, and truth.

“As I look to the future, doors have opened for young women. We are waiting for them to burst,” she said.
