South Asia New York Fashion Week (SANYFW) kicks off today, September 8th. Here’s everything you need to know about this monumental event.

Since its inception in the mid-1900s, New York Fashion Week has seen many innovations. These innovations have maintained this annual moment in the fashion zeitgeist that evolves with the times. As hemlines rise and fall with cities’ economic status and street style begins to take over completely changing the way fashion is spread across the world, NYFW has long evolved to keep up with what matters most in the world. The latest initiative to be announced by NYFW in 2022 is the official launch of the city’s first SANYFW.

Developed by fashion entrepreneur Shipra Sharma in partnership with Hetal Patel, SANYFW aims to elevate South Asian fashion inspired by both traditional and contemporary South Asian cultures. “Lehengas turned into coordinating sets; sarees turned into draped gowns; palazzo pants became wide-leg pants. We would like to introduce you to the SANYFW Summer Kickoff Event.

Coordinated with the official Spring/Summer 2022 New York Fashion Week calendar, the week-long experience will take place at a variety of iconic Manhattan venues and be headlined by internationally renowned designers Nomi Ansari and Mayur Girotra. The show will take place. Lovers of South Asian style and fashion will also have access to runway shows featuring various design categories including streetwear, menswear and bridalwear. In addition to the runway show itself, SANYFW also offers a marketplace of South Asian vendors and a health and wellness pop-up sharing knowledge about yoga and Ayurvedic learning.
