With the growing demand for EMS professionals statewide, full-time, part-time, and volunteer opportunities abound in Texas. Texas currently lacks enough of his EMS personnel to work in ambulances, especially in rural areas. The Texas Regional Advisory Councils administer EMS and trauma services, and those interested in pursuing a career in EMS should contact the RAC for scholarships, jobs, and volunteer opportunities in their area.

Approximately 72,000 certified EMS personnel operate over 5,000 ambulances, but more are needed, especially in rural areas. In addition to recruiting Texas natives to her EMS workforce, DSHS is also taking steps to increase retention of existing employees. A federally funded public awareness campaign aimed at growing and sustaining her EMS workforce in Texas will soon launch on radio, television, print, online and social media.
