UW-Madison’s Chell Parkins was a guest on a recent episode of the Ocu-Pasión Podcast.

In an episode titled “Culturally Relevant Dance Education with Chel Perkins of Ballet Hispanico,” Perkins explores the experiences of Latino youth engaged in culturally relevant dance-making practices, the educational research of dance. Her contributions to the nation’s only doctoral program focused, and a journey back to Puerto Rico.
Perkins is the Earnhold Director of Dance Education in the School of Education’s Department of Dance, starting August 1st. She is also a Doctoral Candidate at her College of Teachers, Columbia University, a Research Fellow and a Consultant for the Director of Community Engagement at Ballet Hispanico. In her work at Ballet Hispanico, which she features on episodes of the podcast, Perkins helped develop her curriculum in her engagement with the company’s community.
The Ocu-Pasión Podcast is an interview series hosted by Delsy Sandoval that showcases the experiences of artists and visionaries within the Latin American/Latino community.
