Pacelli High School just got a little smarter.
When the school year starts next Monday, Pacelli will unveil its latest smart lab. This allows students to catch up with technology and learn in hands-on new ways.
Pacelli principal Kane Malo said the lab will help keep up with modern society.
“We’re putting our kids in a mode of electronic production rather than electronic consumption,” Maro said. wants to empower kids to create exciting YouTube videos for everyone.”
Pacelli now has smart labs in high school and elementary school buildings. Lab costs were paid with the help of non-public school emergency aid issued to schools to cover learning losses during the pandemic.
With the addition of labs, Pacelli is now the only school in Austin that can offer STEM labs to all K-12 students.
“These are made to allow children to be in charge of their own education,” Maro said. “This allows us to show teachers and the community what they know.”
The new lab encourages students to explore, plan, act, reflect and share what they’ve learned. Students learn about problem solving and discover engineering, coding and robotics.
With a new lab, a cleaning and paint overhaul inside Pacelli, and a new parking lot outside the building, Maro feels very optimistic about his third year as head of the school.
“It’s great to finally be leading Pacelli in a year that’s not COVID-related,” Maro said. “Our enrollment numbers are growing and we have a buzz that we didn’t have in his first two years. With the addition of roads to the front and green spaces, I am really excited about this school year. ”
The high school lab was placed in an old media center room, and the elementary school lab was placed in an old warehouse.
