For nearly half a century, Ronnie Russell has been a mainstay of education in Gatesville and was recently honored with the Gatesville Independent School District Board Staff Spotlight.
Russell began his teaching career in 1973, working at a state boys’ school for a year before joining GSD in 1974. education and health. Although he was teaching students from his 6th grade through his 8th grade, most of his career was spent teaching his 6th grade.
Russell retired in May 2013 after 39 years of teaching experience, but continued to work for GSD as a bus driver, where he has now worked for nine years.
Russell will celebrate his 50th anniversary in 2023, 49 of those years with GSD.
“He’s been driving buses for a long time and still drives buses,” said GISD Director Barrett Pollard. “This is an amazing achievement.
Pollard told Russell, “Thank you for all you’ve done and I hope you keep doing this for a long time.
“I hope so,” said Russell.
