Morgantown, Virginia – On September 8, 2022, all 55 counties in West Virginia will come together for the largest free Naloxone (Nalcan) distribution day in the state. Now in its third year, Save a Life Day includes all counties for the first time and hospitals from the Mon Health System. A statewide map of over 150 events can be found at savealifewv.org.
Save a Life Day is made possible with support from the WV Department of Drug Control Policy, which provides Narcan for events statewide. Primary logistical support is also provided by the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy and his WV Maternal, Child and Family Health Service. This year’s major sponsors include Aetna, Ayuda Medical, CareSource, CAMC Foundation, Community Connections, Unicare, and WV Drug Intervention Institute.
In 2020, West Virginia lost an average of 3 lives per day, so in 2021, an average of 2 family members died from a fatal overdose every day. This improvement started with the Save a Life Day event, 2020.
The theme for Save a Life Day 2022 is “Meeting People Where They Are”. Save A Life Day events focus distribution in high-risk areas, incorporate outreach strategies, and partner with drug users to provide more naloxone to people at risk of overdose.
