Madison – The Madison School Board approved the district’s strategic plan as a result of months of feedback from surveys, work sessions and meetings from teachers, staff, parents, students and residents.

Dr. Ed Nichols, superintendent of Madison City Schools, said the plan sets goals for the next five years in the areas of academics, special services, operations and facilities, communications, support services, technology and faculty.

The 28-page document details the tools, assigned personnel, and action items for objectives. * Support Services – Continue to explore the growing needs of students for mental health by providing quality training and lessons to all stakeholders. Action steps include adding a platform for grades K-12 to support mental health.

Teachers will also continue to lead “First Aid” training for youth mental health. Administrators oversee the academy and the placement of students with non-traditional needs.

* Technology — MCS will increase its cybersecurity presence to protect data sources and build a more secure infrastructure for the district. A school district wants to replace outdated hardware, including servers, computers, access points, switches, routers, and other outdated technology solutions.

MCS will provide all students with a device (computer) along with enhanced support.

* Faculty and Staff — The district is committed to hiring first-class, quality employees using consistent procedures. Related needs include assessing salary schedules, reviewing interview processes, and identifying creative ways to reach certification.
