We are pleased to announce that the Governor’s Public Health Commission (a task force established last year by Gov. Eric Holcomb) recently released some recommendations to improve the state’s poor health. The report identified several areas that policymakers need to pay attention to. This includes providing significant new funding to local health departments.
Health in Indiana has been neglected for far too long, and I hope our legislators pay close attention to the report. think.
A cornerstone of better health is reducing unacceptably high smoking rates. He has one of the highest smoking rates in the country, and thousands of children are becoming new cigarette smokers each year, so action is needed.
A significant increase in tobacco taxes would not only help people quit smoking, but would also generate new revenue that could be directed toward public health. It is a solution for , hopefully in 2023.
