Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: The Magic Returns to London’s West End

For fans who wondered that they would not see the wizarding world again, think again! Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is back on the West End stage and is as enchanting, exhilarating and peculiar as before.
This is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and is set nineteen years after the events of The Deathly Hallows, when Harry, Ron and Hermione are adults. But they are not alone in playing the leading roles this time. The play takes the audience right into the future, where there is a new generation of witches and wizards who are joining Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
This is not your typical play that you get with television series or any other franchise, given the Harry Potter association. Forbes called it “one of the most defining moments in pop culture history of the decade.” The show is the most awarded theatre production in history. It is quite a compliment, but one cannot help but desperately run around looking for the excellence that the Palace Theatre wants people to see.
An Immersive Theatrical Experience
The first thing you notice once you get into the venue is that you are in the wizarding world. The newly renovated Palace Theatre has been given some suitable Hogwarts-themed accessories that include the wallpaper with the emblem of the school and the banners of the Hogwarts houses. There are also small bonuses that are not immediately noticeable; for example, the “clock” room is located in the upper circle.
At the entrance, there is a gift shop, so better take a closer look at the merchandise before the show. Visit the shop and purchase an interactive wand, a knitted scarf in the house colours that the students wear in the play, t-shirts and The Journey, a behindthe-sscenes book about the making of this magical show.
Once you’ve gotten your wizarding keepsakes, take your seat and prepare to be blown away. The play utilises some ingenious stagecraft, illusions, and special effects that will have you “audibly wowed, cheering and gasping,” according to The Telegraph review.
The Hollywood Reporter praised it as “thrilling theatricality and pulse-pounding storytelling,” while Rolling Stone gushed about “visions of pure enchantment send shivers down your spine.” The Times summed it up simply as “It is out of this world, it’s magic, it’s a hit.”
A Gripping New Adventure
So what is this blockbuster play about? Well, I wouldn’t dare spoil all the surprises, but let’s just say it involves spectacular spells, a mind-bending race through time, and an epic battle with mysterious forces threatening the very future itself.
Yes, you read that right – time travel! Just when you thought J.K. Rowling had covered all the magical possibilities, she’s cooked up an original new story that’s sure to have loyal fans screaming with delight.
Penned by Jack Thorne based on a story by Rowling, Thorne, and director John Tiffany, The Cursed Child hasn’t lost any of the spirit and charm that made the original book series so beloved. Our famous trio may be all grown up, but they still seem like the brave young heroes we all adored. And their children are proving to be quite incredible in their own right as they navigate the wondrous and perilous realms of sorcery.
It’s an absolute must-see for Harry Potter fans, whether you’re a lifelong devotee or were just recently introduced to the magic. Who knows, you might just discover your inner wizard or witch!
A Two-Part Spectacle
Because no ordinary runtime could possibly contain such an extraordinary tale, The Cursed Child is told across two separate productions, cheekily referred to as Part One and Part Two. Fortunately, you can catch both on the same day.
On Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Part One has a 2pm matinee followed by Part Two at 7pm in the evening. For Sunday viewing, Part One is at 1pm with Part Two at 6pm. When you book tickets, you’ll automatically get seats for both parts.
