Future of Education event set for October 11th at UWO’s Welcome Center
On Tuesday, October 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, a thoughtful discussion about the future of American education with former U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Marquette University academic Howard Fuller will take place. It is done.
Presented by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership in partnership with UWO, the free event is open to the public and will be held at the Culver Family Welcome Center (625 Pearl Avenue) on the Oshkosh campus.

DeVos served as the 11th U.S. Secretary of Education from 2017 to 2021 and is a leading advocate for educational freedom for students of all ages.
For more than 30 years, she has pursued public policy reforms that allow all students the freedom, flexibility, resources and support they need to choose where, when and how they study. Her advocacy provides new educational options for her K-12 students in more than 25 states and the District of Columbia, helping expand post-high school education options for both students and adult learners. DeVos is also an accomplished business leader. She served as Chairman of the Windquest Group, a privately held investment and management firm based in Michigan. She is the former chairman of the Children’s Federation of America, the Charity Roundtable, and the Michigan Republican Party.
Fuller’s background includes many years of experience in both public service positions and in the field of education. In June 2020, he retired from Marquette University and is now Professor Emeritus.
Prior to his appointment as Marquette, Fuller served for four years as Superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools. He became nationally known for his relentless support for radical educational reform. his memoir, no struggle no progresspublished in 2014.
Fuller serves on the boards of Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy and Milwaukee Charter School Advocates. He is also a member of the National Association of Public Charter Schools Charter Schools Hall of Fame, the Carroll College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The October 11 event will be moderated by Gerald Randall, Managing Partner of Lazarus Group and member of the Thompson Center’s Public Leadership Board. He is Executive Director of the Milwaukee Educational Partnership, which aims to improve the quality of education in Milwaukee Public Schools.
