September 12, 2022
Two Academy Fellows, Prof. Veena Sahajwalla and Prof. David Lindenmayer, are among Australia’s top scientists and scientific teams recognized at the prestigious 2022 Eureka Awards at the Australian Museum.
Close the waste loop
An internationally recognized materials scientist, engineer and innovator, Professor Sahajwara is renowned for pioneering the high temperature conversion of waste in the production of a new generation of ‘green materials’.
Her work seeks to change Australia’s mindset to see unwanted products and materials as valuable resources rather than waste, reusing them and recycling them into new products, creating a ‘circular economy’. It’s purpose.
She received the Celestino Eureka Award for advancing the understanding of science.
real-time biodiversity
One of Australia’s leading ecologists, Professor Lindenmeyer has long been known for his original and ambitious approaches to big ecological problems.
His work with sustainable farms, which has monitored how biodiversity responds to changes in on-farm management over decades, enables farmers to make informed management decisions. I made it This includes using BirdCast, a digital tool that helps predict which birds will populate forests under different scenarios.
The sustainable farm has been awarded the NSW Environment and Heritage Eureka Award for Applied Environmental Research.
