“Our goal and vision for the district was to build partnerships with businesses and industries and gain their support,” added Ignite North Director Chris Clark. “We work with them to find the kinds of skills students need to transition to the workplace after high school.”
KDE Seeks Feedback on Social Studies Draft
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking feedback on incorporating elements of Kentucky Revised Act (KRS) 158.196 into the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Social Studies.
Section 4(3)(a) of Senate Bill 1 (2022) created KRS 158.196. This requires KDE to incorporate basic American writing and speech into appropriate grade-level middle and high school social studies academic standards, and to adjust the corresponding assessments. KDE assembled statewide educators who were members of the Social Studies Advisory Board and Review Board to incorporate the basic documents into his KAS in Social Studies.
KRS 158.6453 requires that KDE implement a process to review all academic standards and coordinated assessments beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year. The schedule will review one or two content areas each year, then rotate every six years thereafter.
To provide feedback on draft social studies KAS documents, please visit https://live.datstathost.com/AIR-Collector/Survey.
The public comment period will continue until September 30th. Due to the amount of text, we recommend completing the survey on a full-size computer or laptop screen. Feedback is collected by the American Institute (AIR).
Questions about this process can be sent to standards@education.ky.gov.
