Shreveport, Louisiana — Huntington High School uses the Magnet program to develop scholars, ensuring many returning graduates and continuing a tradition of excellence. This is just one of the ways the school hopes to contribute to the growth of the local economy.
“I can’t say enough about how they’ve turned out some local lawyers. Judges and they’re back and doing a great job supporting our law program. I have a business magnet component that teaches.
It’s not just how you market your business, it’s how you actually run your business,” said Dr. Matthew Mitchell.
STEAM is a modern magnet program focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. The student was interested in exploring cybersecurity and other similar measures.
Following the back-to-school scholarships offered by the Caddo Parish School Board, school board members say they have received many compliments regarding the additional money received by most teachers and staff across the district.
“I took it to the board and the board said okay. Dr. Gorey said we would find the money. When they said $1000, I said $500. I started jumping in. From the groundskeeper to the custodian, the cafeteria picked up the check. When I was at the grocery store, about five or six employees hugged me. It was given to me.
Many school employees received the benefits, but not long-term substitute teachers. Board members are now trying to find ways to include them in the future.
