RENO, Nevada (KOLO) – Nearly three months after an incident involving a possible family member and a weapon inside the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City, the nonprofit has hired a new board member.

Since that incident, the museum has remained closed, but new leaders are preparing to welcome the community.

“We have a paleontology lab right away, so I am really excited to see the dinosaur bones and see the first dinosaur in Nevada, Nevadadromeus Schmitti, and get some hands-on learning.” said Becky Hall, executive director of the Children’s Museum.

A native of Henderson, Nevada, Hall holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Biology from UNLV.

She is also the director of the Nevada Science Center. Nevada Science Center is a non-profit organization that designs and conducts activities for preschool through high school students, including virtual excursions.

The mother of six children told KOLO8 News Now that she plans to add more STEM programs, events and interactive exhibits to expand the age range the museum currently serves.

“We want every family that comes here to bring their young or older children and experience it, so we’re really looking at the education and experience they can have here,” Hall said. rice field.

The non-profit will thoroughly clean the facility and remove broken and non-functioning exhibits.

Hall said revitalizing the museum is a passion project for her and all volunteers undergo background checks, as she did before taking office.

“I definitely want the museum to be a reliable and safe haven for all. I think we need to think about people.”

The museum is planning a Halloween event. However, the details are still being worked on.

According to Hall, an opening for members will take place the first week of November, followed by a public opening in the second week.
