From the pre-Civil War generation to the groovy 1960s, the fashions of Southington residents in days gone by will be on full display at the Barnes Museum later this month.
Located at 85 N. Main Street, the museum introduces a new exhibit starting Sept. 26 called “Thread Through Time – A Timeline of Fashion in Southington.”
From bonnets to bellbottoms, this exhibit showcases clothing worn by generations of locals from 1840 to 1970.
“Through the evolution of Southington, we explore the history of fashion through the accessories, garments and shoes that have defined fashionable attire in each decade,” the museum wrote in its exhibit announcement.
“Perfect for fashion lovers of all ages. This is the first time the Barnes Museum of Art’s textile collection has been displayed in its entirety.”
The new exhibit runs from Monday 26th September to Monday 7th November. The museum car park is accessible from Riccio Way.
Drop-in tours of the exhibit are available Wednesday through Friday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The final tour starts at 4:00 PM. Tours are available five days a week by appointment.
