AISD was selected as a 2022 Special District by the Texas Association of Art Education
Abilene, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene Independent School District (AISD) is one of the recipients of the District of Distinction Award presented by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA).
This award recognizes school districts that excel in visual arts education. AISD was awarded this honor for providing an education that includes a balanced arts curriculum in accordance with the TAEA.
TAEA says AISD’s curriculum helps students to be creative, connect with communities, and build social-emotional learning.
Superintendent of Education Dr. David Young said AISD was thrilled to be ranked for the award, according to an AISD press release.
“Congratulations to our community of arts educators on earning such recognition for putting their best into our classrooms every day.
More than 1,200 school districts in Texas were eligible to apply this year. Each school district submitted submissions following a 14-point rubric showcasing their work in the visual arts. Only the top 4% of districts received the award, and only 59 of all applicants met the high standards.
Jay Lester, Executive Director of Fine Arts at AISD, said he was proud of the students and teachers who helped win this award.
“Their tireless efforts to represent themselves and the district at local and statewide art shows and competitions have once again positioned us among the best school districts in the state,” Lester said.
TAEA is the largest arts education institution in the United States. Its mission is to promote quality visual arts education through advocacy, leadership and professional development.
The AISD will be honored at the TAEA Governance and Oversight Divisions meeting on Friday, November 10th and at the TAEA Fall Conference Plenary.
