MADISON, Wisconsin — A new mural that combines science and art was unveiled Wednesday at the Wisconsin Discovery Institute at Madison.
Called “A Landscape of Wisconsin Discovery,” the mural offers an up-close look at different scientific disciplines and paints a large picture of scientists from different eras.
It also features nine QR codes that viewers can scan with their mobile phones to interact with the display in different ways.
“What these QR codes really allow is for viewers to spend time interacting with the mural, making their own discoveries and connections,” says artist and student Sharon Tang. said. “The use of QR codes also gives universities the opportunity to feature dynamic materials to highlight science education and feature members of their own research communities.”

Tan and fellow artists Amy Zaremba and Alicia Lehr were selected to create the mural from a pool of about 30 artists across the country, according to the university.
