If you know or care for an individual with a disability or special needs, such as a medical condition that requires assistance but does not require hospitalization, it is important to pre-register with the Florida Special Needs Shelter Registry.

The Florida Special Needs Registry registers people in need of services with local emergency management offices so they can get help quickly in an emergency.

You can access the Florida Special Needs Registry here. You must log in with an existing account or create a new account.

In an emergency, such as a hurricane evacuation, you may need to go to a special needs shelter. Sign up through the Florida Special Needs Shelter Registry to receive important information about available evacuations and evacuation options from your local emergency management authority.

If you are eligible for a special needs shelter, your kit should include:

• List of drugs and dosages
• 30 days supply of medicine
• important medical equipment for those who may be dependent on electricity or oxygen,
• Backup energy source for essential medical equipment
• special dietary needs or foods
• Personal information such as photo identification, health insurance card, emergency contact information, and contact information for your primary care physician

When you fill out the Florida Special Needs Registry, your local emergency management agency will provide additional information about available evacuations and evacuation options.
