The 60th Annual Agricultural Science Review, sponsored by Ohio State University’s Department of Food, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), concluded at the Molly Cullen Agricultural Center after welcoming 114,589 visitors over the three-day course. With over 600 exhibitors, the latest in farming technology, presentations from Ohio and OSU Extension experts, and hands-on learning opportunities, Farm Science Review (FSR) literally has something for everyone.

Addie Hubbard, a Meigs County cattle farmer, attended the farm show several years ago as a high school student and brought her two children with her this year.

Jackson County’s Mike Farley, who raises beef, hogs and hay, comes to FSR every year to “see different things. And sometimes exhibitors have sales on their items.”

The entire Hiler Farms family of Crawford County visited the 2022 show, led by 82-year-old matriarch Karl, brother Jerry, son Randy, and grandson Chris. Hiler’s farm is his 3,000 acres and grows corn, soybeans, and wheat. They feel the FSR is “very valuable” each year.

But some non-human attendees have also boasted impressive longevity at the farm show. I just missed the show, which was held virtually on . Other 2022 FSR highlights include:

• The new research partnership, dubbed AgTech Innovation Hub, was announced by Ohio President Christina A. Johnson, CFAES Dean and Vice President of Agricultural Administration Cathan A. Kress, and Nationwide President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Vervin. rice field. Together, Nationwide and Ohio will advance the development of new solutions that benefit agroecosystems while improving understanding, management and mitigation of climate risks. Nationwide has committed up to $2 million in initial funding to identify and execute Innovation Hub initiatives, and will provide additional funding and resources in the future.

• DeGraff’s Chuck Gamble, Hillard’s Bill Phillips, and Defiance’s Bob Zachrich were inducted into the 2022 class of the FSR Hall of Fame during a private event.
• The Ohio Department of Agriculture has recognized five families as recipients of the 2022 Conservation Farm Family Award. They were Setrage Farms in Auglaize County. Barthez Farm in Mahoning County. Claylic Run Farm, Ferrumry Family, County Licking. Braun Stator Farms in Warren County. Brown Family Farm in Highland County.
• In the always-anticipated Friday Avenue session talk, “Global Uncertainty and the Heartland” was featured by a panel of three faculty members from CFAES’ Department of Agriculture, Environment, and Development Economics. Policy; Professor Ani Kachova, Chairperson of the Agricultural Income Enhancement Commission. and her assistant professor, Seungki Lee, who has expertise in environmental economics, climate change, and the impact of new technologies in the field of agriculture.
• Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) flew over the field during daily demonstrations, complemented by video monitors on the ground displaying real-time images and video feeds for participants. A beta version of Ryse Aero Technologies’ manned electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle has also taken to the skies to see what the future holds.

• Farmers in need of temporary labor were able to visit representatives from El Salvador promoting work opportunities with the H-2 program.
• The solar industry was represented by several groups, from small residential scale applications to large commercial applications, hoping to partner with agriculture for a more sustainable future.

Daily attendance was 37,392 on Tuesday. Wednesday – 52,780; Thursday – 24,417 for a total of 114,589.
