The Make a Splash with Project WET festival returns to Lihue’s Vidinha football stadium on September 15 after a two-year postponement due to the pandemic.

Over 750 5th graders enjoyed a festival coordinated by the Kauai County Water Department with the help of over 175 volunteers.

Joe Tait, Water Authority Manager and Chief Engineer, said:

The number of participants from neighboring islands this year was the highest in 17 years. Volunteers representing five water authorities flew in from Oahu, Molokai, and the Big Island to join his team with Kauai’s water authorities and water-related communities, his partners.

WET in Project WET stands for Water Education Today. The festival featured activity stations with lectures and interactive components. This year’s water topics include groundwater, drinking water services, protection of the environment and water resources, watershed management, water cycles, water properties, natural ecosystems, protection of native species, rescue of marine animals, and understanding water droplets. “Water education continues to be a top priority in our outreach programs. It serves as a great opportunity to provide a I am an Information and Education Specialist and Festival Coordinator for the Water Authority.
