FSIS issues public health warning on certain ground beef in HelloFresh meal kits due to potential E. coli O157:H7 contamination

Washington, September 10, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert over concerns that the ground beef product in HelloFresh meal kits may be linked. - 10 oz. A plastic vacuum pack package containing “GROUND BEEF 85% LEAN/15% FAT” with the code “EST#46481 L1 22 155” or “EST#46481 L5 22 155” on the side of the package.
The ground beef package will have “EST.46841” on the inside of the USDA inspection mark and on the plastic ground beef package.
FSIS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and state public health partners are investigating the outbreak. Escherichia coli O157:H7 and raw ground beef may be the cause of the reported illness. Traceback information identified multiple case-patients manufactured at facility M46841 and from 2 July 2022 through 21 July he received ground beef distributed in a meal kit by HelloFresh. FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumer freezers. Consumers who purchase these products are urged not to consume them. These products must be discarded.
