The following intensive courses in the Early Childhood Program include two courses, each requiring field experience.
Birth – 3rd Grade Teacher
ECED 2120/2121: Curriculum Development through Play: Birth – Age 4*
- This course requires students to complete 45 hours of hands-on experience in an early childhood center with children aged from birth to 4 years of age throughout the CNM semester.
- Due to limited after-school time options, students should plan their schedules to complete observation time Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Students must complete an online application for placement in an environment approved by the CNM Education Department.
ECED 2130/2131: Curriculum Development and Implementation: Years 3 to 3*
- This course requires you to complete 45 hours of hands-on experience in an early childhood center or elementary school classroom with students in preschool through third grade.rd Assess throughout the semester.
- Due to limited after-school time options, students should plan their schedules to complete observation time Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Students must complete an online application for placement in an environment approved by the CNM Education Department.
*These two hands-on experiences must be completed in different settings for different age groups and approved/verified by the education department. A student may be required to undergo her two separate background checks for these two courses. Students who complete field hours at an early childhood center are required to complete a background check at CYFD. Students who complete an apprenticeship at a public school must have an approved school district clearance separate from their CYFD clearance.
- For both Birth-3 grade concentration courses, students will receive an email with information about applying for field placements after enrolling in the course.
- All students are required to complete an online placement application to complete field hours.
- All students taking the above courses in Birth – Year 3 Intensive are required to take and pass a background check. Students are responsible for paying the background check fee. Information about obtaining a background check will be included in the email students receive just before the semester begins.

ECE 2280/2281: Professional Relationships and Practice
- Both courses in the Program Management Intensive require students to complete 45 hours of field experience over the semester. Most students enrolled in these courses complete a few hours at their current workplace. Students needing assistance with these courses should contact their faculty member or Field Experiences Coordinator.
Early Childhood Family Studies Certificate**
ECE 2240/2241: Child Growth and Development and Practice
ECED 2150/2151: Relationships and Reflective Practices in Early Childhood Family Studies and Practice
- Both courses in the Early Childhood and Family Studies Intensive Course require students to complete 45 hours of field experience throughout the semester. Most students enrolled in these courses complete a few hours at their current workplace. Students who need assistance with these courses should contact their faculty member or Field Experience Her Coordinator.
