Smithsonian Folkways Hires New Digital Marketing and Distribution Specialist

Smithsonian Folkways is seeking applications for a new position in its marketing department specializing in digital distribution and creative marketing campaigns.
Ideal candidates have experience conceptualizing and executing dynamic marketing campaigns for independent artists and record labels, and are familiar with the music contained in the Smithsonian Folkways catalog.
This role will maintain and expand ties with DSPs such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Pandora, and develop content for these platforms and the Smithsonian Folkways website. This position reports to the Marketing Manager and works closely with the Folkways Marketing team.
Candidates from other parts of the United States will also be considered, but preference will be given to candidates residing in or relocating to the metropolitan area (Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area).
Main business
- Coordinate the presence of the Smithsonian Folkways catalog with digital service providers, including but not limited to Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Tidal, Qobuz, etc.
- Develop strategies and campaigns for visibility of new releases on DSP.
- Work with marketing managers to develop long-term audio and video strategies.
- Reports on catalog and new release analysis and statistics.
- Acting as a point person for digital distribution partners, developing campaigns that benefit Smithsonian Folkways with DSP’s external partners and label’s digital distributors.
- Communicate Smithsonian Folkways marketing priorities to relevant industry partners.
- Ensure timely and accurate data delivery of catalogs and new releases.
- Under the direction of the Marketing Manager, lead the creation of playlists and digital-only releases in collaboration with the Marketing Team and Production Manager.
- Maintain organization of related documents, digital files and other related materials.

Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 2-5+ years of work experience in the independent music industry, primarily related to digital distribution and marketing.
- A shared understanding and passion for the music and mission of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.
- Attention to detail and good writing skills.
A creative approach to music marketing and the ability to listen and collaborate. - A way of working that supports extensive teamwork and collaboration with colleagues on the marketing team.
- Persistence and ability to keep up with new developments and trends in the rapidly changing music industry.
- Excellent planning and execution skills; Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and balance multiple projects.

- Passion for new music with adventurous listening habits, including traditional music.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, Filemaker, and basic photo, audio, and video editing software.
- Salaries: Annual salaries are based on the GS-9 level of the Federal General Schedule (GS) Payroll System.
