SAN ANGELO, Texas — More than 150 local and regional students attended the 2023 Rise and Teach Education Conference at Angelo State University at Houston Hart University on Thursday, Jan. 26, according to an Angelo State University press release. high school students will participate. The conference aims to support the next generation of educators in Texas by helping students who plan to become teachers as they transition from high school to higher education. It is co-sponsored by her ASU and the Region 15 Center for Educational Services and is supported by Howard College.

“The Rise and Teach Education Conference demonstrates the power of partnerships in growing Texas teachers,” said Dr. Scarlet Clouse, president of ASU College of Education. “The State of Angelo, Region 15, local ISDs and communities will meet for a career-focused one-day conference to recognize high school students interested in teaching. You will have the opportunity to learn from leading educational professionals and connect with your peers.”

Through various breakout sessions and campus tours, participating high school students interact with representatives from ASU and Howard College, obtain information about dual-credit programs and scholarship opportunities, interact with ASU students, and learn about available Learn more about our teacher education program. You are also eligible for an individual scholarship of $5,000 funded by HEB.

Students at each grade level participate in specially designed sessions that include:

• 10th Grade – Awareness: What to Do in High School to Prepare for a Teaching Career
• Year 11 – Exploring: Transitioning to College (Including Admissions and Scholarships/Financial Aid)
• Grade 12 – Involvement: Participation in the ASU Teacher Education Division, including meeting professors, observing classes, and visiting educational facilities

Other conference activities include a chemistry show by Dr. Kate Bieberdorf, Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas, known as “Kate the Chemist.” Complimentary lunches and door prizes will also be provided.
